A Three Hour Tour...A Three Hour Tour

Come sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a maddening trip.
That started when I left my house
And the cars, they started to slip.

Now Arkansas' not used to snow,
We definitely don't do ice.
The teensy bit that fell at dawn,
Sent 'em spinning left and right.

We left our house at 7 a.m.
For the 30 minute drive.
We arrived at school at 8:36
With my patience somewhat tried.

The radio declared the day,
"Ice Storm 2008"
That staion is now off my dial-
Weather embellishment I hate

If cars would all drive in a line
And nobody jack their brakes.
My day might have started without stress
And I would not have devoured that cake.

I'm so sorry for the song. That's, like, 2 songs in a week. I know. I'll stop. It just gets in my head and I must get it out.

Yesterday morning was so stinkin' ridiculous. I'm not kidding---we got like a teeny tiny bit of ice (never even saw it, actually) and everything went haywire. HAYWIRE, I TELL YOU. We saw about 80 cars in the median, down an embankment, upside down...we even saw one in a tree. Upside down.

I would think it would be harder to get in the tree than it was to stay out of it.

The Princess was totally stressing.

"Mom, do you think I'll be the only one that's tardy?"

Only that sweet little type A girl would panic over her tardiness when NO ONE had moved an inch in over an hour.

Oh, and, um, the cake?

Well, unfortunately it was my week to "spoil the teacher". So I picked up a little happy cake at the bakery for her.

And, you know, a little something for home.

Which will stay our little bloggy secret.

So sorry about the ice. The South as a whole just loses it's head when winter weather approaches. We had snow here - less than an inch, and it didn't stick to the roads at all - and the plows & brine trucks were circulating for about twelve hours before it even started.

Those are our tax dollars at work.

Oh, yeah, and if it makes you feel better in any way, I had a big piece of chocolate cake for breakfast. Don't tell.

Well, I live in Northern Michigan and we got hit hard last night. Driving my son to daycare this morning (since all schools were closed) I was driving 25 mph and started slip-sliding out of control. And that would be when my son first heard me ever utter the big ol' "S" word. Ugh.

I am so glad I found you. You crack me up. I have lived in Arkansas my entire life, and I will go ahead and agree with you...Arkansans have no idea how to drive on anything but dry ground.

I love your songs! Only now, I will be humming Gilligan's Island all day!

Gteat song B! It makes a mother proud. You would have worried EXACTLY the same way about being tardy. One of my (many) pet peeves is over exaggeration of the weather forcast. Where is that snow??

you did a great job with the song!!

wow, i can't believe you got ice. but i can believe all of arkansas was in the ditch. so typical. we have no idea how to drive on ice and snow. but here in the south my daughter claimed to have seen a few snowflakes. that's it.

yeah, I know what you mean...Dallas virtually shuts down if there is even the threat of ice! People need to learn how to drive on ice....it should be part of drivers training even if you live where it never snows or ices.

We moved this year from a small university town to the bigger town near by in Idaho. Seriously it is so completely wonderful not to be there during the first few big snows/ices and dealing with all these people that aren't used to it. Sure I was them once too but oh its a little too scary. Its nice now to have most people in the know about the ice and not even stress about it.

Good luck with that invisible ice!
